Press Releases Firecomms CTO Presents RCLED Findings Cork, Ireland, September 3, 2005 Dr. John Lambkin, chief technical officer of Firecomms, Ltd., has been invited to speak about the use of RCLEDs for MOST and IDB 1394 automotive applications at the International Conference on Polymer Optical Fibre (ICPOF) 2005. At the upcoming conference, Dr. Lambkin will discuss the advantages of RCLED technology in the automotive industry, highlighting the results Firecomms has obtained with the use of the company’s RCLEDs in a proof of concept in-vehicle fiber optic network. "With their speed, higher power output, rugged temperature behaviour and low cost, RCLEDs are ideal for automotive applications," says Dr. Lambkin. "And unlike standard LEDs, RCLEDs provide a roadmap to 250 Mbps." Prior to co-founding Firecomms Dr. Lambkin worked as a Senior Research Scientist at the Tyndall Institute, Cork, Ireland (formally known as NMRC) where he managed the Institute’s wafer growth laboratory. Dr. Lambkin has published over 20 refereed papers in the field of compound semiconductor structures and devices, and made numerous presentations at international conferences. ICPOF 2005 will be held in Hong Kong on September 20 through 22. Dr. Lambkin's presentation will be held at 1:45 p.m. on September 20.
